MT5: Trading guide

Learn how to trade using MetaTrader 5 (MT5) from setup to advanced trading features. This guide explains how to install and log in, place and manage trades, use charts and indicators, apply risk management tools, and trade multiple asset classes.

MetaTrader 5 (MT5) is a desktop trading platform for analyzing markets, placing orders, and managing positions. This guide explains installation, login, instruments, and trading functions.

Starting 01 July 2025, only these platform versions will work:

  • MT4 Build 1440 (21 Feb 2025)

  • MT5 Build 4755 (13 Dec 2024)

Older versions will not connect. Update MT5 to avoid login issues. Ensure you have your trading account login and server details before installing.


How to install MT5 trading platform

Windows / macOS

Download MT5 and run the installer. Follow prompts to install. Click Settings to change the installation directory, or click Next to proceed. Click Finish to launch MT5. On first launch, close the “Open an account” window by clicking Cancel.


How to log in to Weltrade MT5

Login steps

  • File → Login to Trade Account.

  • Enter Login, Password, and Server → Login

If you don’t see your server: File → Open an Account → search Weltrade → choose Weltrade → select server → Finish.

Successful login plays a confirmation sound. If using the MT5 account created during registration, password = Personal Area password.


How to switch accounts

  • File → Login to Trade Account → enter another account’s details → OK

Tip: Save account information for quick switching. Saved accounts will appear in the login dropdown.

How to add and remove instruments

Use Market Watch panel to manage instruments.

Add symbols

  • Right-click Market WatchSymbols.

  • Double-click instruments to add → OK


Remove symbols

  • Right-click instrument → Hide


How to open an order

Ways to open New Order

  • Toolbar → New Order

  • Press F9

  • Right-click instrument in Market Watch → New Order

  • Double-click instrument

Market order

  • Select symbol, lot size, SL and TP (optional).

  • Execution type auto-detects based on account

  • Click Buy by Market or Sell by Market.


Pending order

  • Open New Order (F9).

  • Select symbol and lot size. Under Type select Pending Order

  • Set price, optional expiry, SL/TP. Click Place

  • Follow minimum stop-level rules for price, SL, and TP.

Note: Orders expiring on weekends close at the end of that trading week (except crypto).

How to close an order

Close positions via one of these methods:

  • Double-click order in Trade tab → Close

  • Right-click order → Close Order (instant if One-Click Trading is enabled)

  • Click the X next to order in Trade tab (instant closure with One-Click Trading)


How to manage an order

Modify active trades in the Trade tab:

  • Right-click order → Modify order

  • Modify: adjust price, SL, TP, expiry → Modify
