There could be several reasons why you’re unable to place trades in your account.
Possible reasons why you cannot open trade
1. Account not funded
If New Order option is unavailable, your account likely has no funds. Deposit money into your account and try again.
If you see message "Trading on this account is disabled on the server" (or similar) in MT5/MT4, it also means that you need to fund your trading account.
2. Read-only mode enabled
If your account is funded but you still can’t trade, check if you’re in "Read-Only" mode.
This mode is designed for investors who want to monitor their money manager’s activity without interfering - either accidentally or intentionally.
You may have logged in with the "Read-Only" password instead of your "Trading Password" (found in your profile).
3. Symbol restrictions (liquidity issues)
Sometimes, due to liquidity constraints, certain instruments may have trading restrictions:
"Close only" mode. No new positions can be opened, only existing ones closed
Fully disabled. Trading is blocked entirely.
To check:
Hover your cursor over the instrument in the Market Watch window - a tooltip will indicate its status.
Disabled symbols appear gray, while "Close only" symbols look normal.
4. Trading session hours
Some instruments are not available 24/7 and may have scheduled breaks. To verify trading times:
1. Open Symbol Specification. Right-click the instrument in Market Watch → Select Specification.
2. Scroll down to Sessions:
Quotes = When price updates are streamed.
Trades = When trading is allowed.
⚠️ Note: These times are in server time (and it might not be your local time).
To check the current server time, look at Time column in Market Watch for any actively updating symbol.
