MT4 (MetaTrader 4) and MT5 (MetaTrader 5) are professional trading platforms that allow you to place trades, manage positions, and analyze markets in real time. One of the first things you’ll want to learn is how to open a trade - whether you're buying or selling a currency pair, commodity, index, or another instrument.
If you want to place a trade on MT4/MT5, you should be logged in and connected to your trading account.
How to open a trade on MT4/MT5 desktop?
1. Launch MT4 or MT5 on your computer. Make sure you're logged in to your Weltrade trading account
⚠️Note: Trading account password is sent to your email when you’ve been opening an account. Or, you can always change/reset trading account password in Weltrade profile.
You can also check your trading account details in Mailbox at the bottom of the screen.
Confirm you're connected to the internet and the server status shows Connected
2. Open new order window. There are 3 ways to do this:
Click Tools - New Order button on the top toolbar
Press F9 on your keyboard
Right-click on a symbol in Market Watch panel and choose New Order.
3. Set order parameters. In new window that opens, select:
Preferred trading instrument (e.g., metals, commodities, forex majors, etc.) from dropdown menu in field Symbol.
You can also add new instruments by going to Market Watch - Symbols tab - click to add.
Type: Market execution (to open the trade instantly) or Pending order (if you want to trade later at a specific price)
Stop Loss (optional): Set a price to automatically close a losing trade
Take Profit (optional): Set a price to automatically close a winning trade
Comment (optional): Add a personal note to the trade
4. Open the trade:
Click Buy by Market if you expect the price to go up
Click Sell by Market if you expect the price to go down
Once the trade is opened, it will appear in Trade tab at the bottom of the platform.
Additional information
Lot size matters: 0.10 = 0.10 lots (10,000 units on Forex).
Modify later: Right‑click the order in Trade tab → Modify or Delete.
One‑click trading: Enable via Tools → Options → Trade → One Click Trading for faster entries.
